Nevada Chapter of Armenians For Obama Plays Crucial Role in Flipping State from Red to Blue

October 22 , 2008

Las Vegas, NV - On Friday October 10th, a team of Armenians for Obama (A4O) volunteers again joined the Obama Campaign at the Durango, Nevada office to assist with various campaign related activities. Eager volunteers contacted hundreds of Nevadan Armenians to encourage them to vote for Barack Obama and also joined campaign staff in their door-to-door canvassing.

"We continue to work hard in these final days of the Presidential campaign," stated A4O representative Razmik Ablo.  "A successful effort means volunteers constantly on the ground, doing whatever it takes to help get Barack Obama across the finish line first on November 4," he remarked.

On Sunday October 12th, Armenians for Obama volunteers again traveled to the Durango office to assist with canvassing shifts with other volunteers from across the country.  With campaign shifts operating on a constant basis until Election Day, A4O volunteers are poised to be apart of this historic effort.  On Saturday, October 4, A4O members encouraged Nevada citizens to register to vote.  Throughout the day many registration forms were collected to build support for the Obama campaign.  Furthermore, on Friday, October 10, five members spent the afternoon calling voters persuading them to vote for Barack Obama.

"The local community believes that every bit of outreach is critical in an unpredictable swing state like Nevada," stated Ablo.  "We spend every weekend encouraging citizens to register to vote as well as phone-banking in support for Barack Obama," he added.

In anticipation of these volunteer efforts, Ablo and his team have coordinated several e-mail blasts to activists from the local Armenian American community reminding them of the deadline to register to vote in person, the locations to do so, and early voting locations throughout Nevada. Early voting in Nevada ends October 31st.

"The Nevada A4O chapter is a shining example of how Armenian- Americans can truly make a difference in this election.  Nevada Armenians are working hard to flip the state from the Bush-McCain column to the Obama-Biden column because they know what a disaster a McCain administration would be for America and Armenian-American issues," commented Areen Ibranossian.

Looking ahead to the weekend of October 25-26, the A4O team in Nevada will be welcoming out of town activists to join the effort as the campaign enters the final stretch drive.  This weekend of activism coincides with an event to be held in support of long-time friend of the Armenian American community, Congresswoman Shelly Berkley.

Armenians for Obama is a nationwide voter registration, education, and mobilization effort dedicated to electing Barack Obama President. Based in Los Angeles, and with chapters and affiliates across the country, Armenians for Obama will harness the energy and enthusiasm for Barack Obama's candidacy to ensure record high Armenian American turnout in critical battleground states.
